As I earlier pointed out, my next memories are of a time when I would have been between the birth ages of 2 to 2 1/2 years old. I am walking across the yard of a place that family would throughout the years refer to as Podunk. I have no idea what that name derived from, but only that its mention was of this residence. And this walk across the yard was carrying my brother Adrian, who is 3 years older than me, and holds my right hand, and my sister Lotus, who is 15 months older than me, and is holding my left hand, to the church pastored by a woman I first knew as Granny Melton. The church was next door. The path to the church would have been from our door to the left of the house at a diagonal walk. Granny and Brother Melton would live in a house behind the church directly to the left of ours, that was cubicle of shape having a flat roof. I recall that this odd looking house was also a boarding house for more than the Meltons, but that I was not aware of until later years.
My big brother, Adrian, is now 5 years old. I deduce this from the knowledge that he is in kindergarten. Later in life, I briefly wonder if he was in a special education class, for I remember seeing him emerge from one of the little yellow buses. I was told that it was a small bus because the number of students in kindergarten was few enough to not require a big bus. So he must have been 5 years old, and of at least average intelligence. That is why I have reckoned my own age at that time to have been about 2 years old. Of course, Adrian has been suddenly introduced into my world from the womb of a little yellow school bus... Was he really born as a baby, too? I cannot personally assure you of that, But that's what I was told...

Perhaps I would never have remembered this dwelling if it had not been for an event that occurred while we were here that I recall happening only twice in my lifetime until I was 19 years old. In fact, this event gave me a perspective that anchored my 3 - 4 year old memory of this address to merely the front screen door and front porch of the house. You see, I remember looking out of the front door at snow. I know that I was in the winter of the year of either my 3rd - 4th year, or perhaps my 4th - 5th year because I would start kindergarten at Almeda Elementary School at the age of 5 years. When that takes place we will have apparently moved four streets over to 2846 Monticello. Of all the places we will live, Monticello is the one I tend to view as my childhood home.
So many things occurred on Monticello it will be difficult to tell it, but I'll try. Back Next
